Police Blotter

KINGSTON – A Dallas man was charged Tuesday with allegedly attempting to break into a residence on North Gates Avenue.

Darryl B. Malast, 46, of Valley View Estates, was charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary, criminal attempt to commit criminal trespass, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

Kingston police charged Malast after he attempted to break into the residence at about 10 p.m. Monday and left a bag of garbage on the porch, according to arrest records.

Police said Malast was found in a parked vehicle and kicked at several officers. Police also said Malast had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, arrest records say.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for May 7 in Central Court.

SWOYERSVILLE – Police reported the following incidents:

• Frank Stoodley, 33, of Swoyersville, was charged Monday with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment after a disturbance on Watkins Street, police said.

Stoodley was released on $20,000 unsecured bail, according to Luzerne County Court records.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for May 7 in Central Court.

• Joseph Hoyt, of Swoyersville, reported a custom 2005 BMX bicycle was stolen from his residence on Saturday or Sunday, police said.

BUTLER TWP. – An 18-year-old man from Claymont, Del., is facing a disorderly conduct charge for allegedly setting off “stink bombs” at the Keystone Job Corps Center on April 15 and April 16, police said.

Police said Teeyeneoh Doe, 18, created several stink bombs that caused the evacuation of several students from classrooms and disrupted classed being held in a building. Doe was a student at the job corps center, police said.

WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:

David Standarowski, 23, of South Thomas Street, Kingston, was arrested and cited with public drunkenness on Mundy and Kidder streets on Monday.

A woman was arrested for allegedly attempting to leave Boscov’s on South Main Street without paying for items on Monday night, police said.

The store observed Candis Lazovich going behind a counter and taking a shopping bag – filling it with merchandise, police said. Charges were filed against Lazovich.

Joseph Flynn reported a person known to him damaged an apartment window of a building he owns on South Franklin Street at 4:32 a.m. Monday.

Edward Ash alleged to police that John Spitalik, 37, successfully forged and cashed Ash’s check at 566 S. Main St. on April 26, police said. The incident is under investigation.

A 17-year-old juvenile reported someone assaulted him and stole a portable PSP and games at Moyallen and Sherman streets on Sunday, police said.

Mauro Kathio and Lou Ann Shaffer allegedly engaged in a fight in public at 73 Kado St. on Sunday, police said. Both were cited with harassment and disorderly conduct.

Deborah Wilma Gist, 46, of Wilkes-Barre, was accused of being on the property of another causing a disturbance on St. Clair Street on Monday night, police said.

Gist was present upon police arrival and taken into custody on another unrelated matter, police said. She was cited with disorderly conduct.

Police cited Gist with harassment after officers responded to a domestic dispute that had allegedly involved her on Larch Lane, police said.

Nicholas Paul Marziano, 19, of Plains Township, is accused of removing $585 worth of instant lottery tickets from the display without authorization and cashed in the winning tickets at Turkey Hill on East Main Street on Tuesday, police said.

Marziano was arrested and charged with retail theft, police said.

John H. Jacuboski, 41, of Wilkes-Barre, was arrested and charged with public drunkenness.

Jill Materazzi reported on Sunday that a bike was stolen from 182 Noble St.

• Christopher Hector, 39, was taken into custody on Monday at South Franklin and South Ross streets on charges of public drunkenness.

• Keno Johnson-Williams, 31, was arrested on Saturday at 395 S. Main St. on evidence of public drunkenness.
