One dead after Saturday night crash in Hanover Township

HANOVER TWP. — Police are investigating a one car crash Saturday night that killed one of the people inside the vehicle.

According to police, a vehicle carrying four occupants was traveling south on South Main Street, in the area of Strand Street at about 11 p.m. Saturday, when it crossed into the north-bound lane.

The vehicle then struck and broke a PPL utility pole and came to rest in an open field.

All four occupants were taken by ambulance to hospitals.

The Luzerne County Coroner’s Office confirmed that one person was killed in the crash, with deputy coroner Dan Hughes stating that the victim died at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township. Hughes declined to provide further details, including the victim’s name and age.

A memorial was set up at the scene of the accident.

Hanover Township Police could provide no more information at this time.

Township Police ask that anyone who witnessed the crash contact them with information at 570-825-1254.
