The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Dunkin’ Donuts, 158 S. River St. Plains Twp, May 8. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.

Hazle Mini Mart, 1136 Rte. 940, Harleigh, May 8. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Three-basin sink has buildup of mineral deposits in basins.

Kmart #3268, 910 Wilkes-Barre Twp., Wilkes-Barre, May 8. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Rush Inn, 220 Zerby Ave., Kingston, May 8. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food facility does not have available Quat sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate Quat sanitizer concentration used in the kitchen. There is a buildup of static dust on the fan guard on the fan guard inside of the walk-in cooler. Used cloths sponge, and steel scrubber observed in the hand-wash sink, indicating uses other than hand washing. The above items were removed from the sink during this inspection.

SB’s Riverview Pizzeria, 512 N. Main St., Pittston, May 8. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Cheder Menachem, 17 Second Ave., Kingston, May 10. Opening inspection; out of compliance. Violations: The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food employee observed donning single-use gloves without a prior hand wash. Employee washed hands and donned new gloves after inspector made him aware of need to wash hands prior to donning gloves. Cole slaw, sliced tomato, cream cheese and tuna sandwiches were not received at proper temperature of 41 degrees F or below. It was determined that the food items were within acceptable temperatures when left the kitchen in which they were prepared and then transported to this facility. These foods arrived at the facility in less than two hours and were served immediately upon arrival. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available in refrigeration unit containing milk. Observed sandwich makers and toaster stored directly on the floor in the dining area. Person in charge stated that the students use these to make there own toast and grilled cheese sandwiches. No paper towels were available at the hand-wash sink. Paper towels were placed during this inspection. No sign or poster posted at the hand wash sink in restroom used by employees to remind food employees to wash their hands. A sign was provided during this inspection. EZ Express Mart, 3251 Rte. 118, Dallas, May 12. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food deli meats and cheeses, located in the deli display case, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Working containers in deli prep area, used for storing chemicals/cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Two half gallons of Clover Leaf 2% milk were available for retail sale with a sell-by date of 5/11/17. Milk was removed from sale and voluntarily disposed of at the time of this inspection. Deli meat sandwiches were held at a temperature range of 46-51 degrees F, in the deli display case, rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. Sandwiches were voluntarily disposed of at the time of this inspection. Milk and dairy creamer were held at 52 degrees F, in the self service beverage area, rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. Milk and creamer were voluntarily disposed of at the time of this inspection. Deli display case is not maintaining time temperature control for safety foods (TCS) below 41 degrees F as required. Self service coffee station refrigerator is not maintaining time temperature control for safety foods (TCS) below 41 degrees F as required. Observed black mold like substance on interior cabinet and cuber head of ice machine. Ice was disposed of, machine emptied, cleaned and sanitized at the time of this inspection.

KB’s Coffee House, 206 N Main St., Shavertown, May 12. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Two half-gallon containers of Fair Meadow whole milk available for retail sale with an expiration date of 5/8/17. Milk was voluntarily discarded at the time of this inspection. Eggs and burgers are served raw or under cooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. Observed buildup of grease dripping and static dust on interior of hood ventilation system in need of cleaning.

Longhorn Steakhouse #5436, Bear Creek Blvd. & Mundy St., Wilkes Barre, May 12. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed the plastic coating peeling on the metal shelves in multiple refrigeration units Observed the deteriorating rubber door gasket on the dessert refrigeration unit.

Star Asia Buffet, 400 Rte. 315 Ste. 220, Pittston, May 12. Complaint inspection; in compliance. Violation: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Person in charge will register for class and provide copy of certificate when received.

Tang Asian Cuisine Inc., 300 Wilkes-Barre Twp. Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, May 12. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed the loose gasket and door panel on the bain marie. Observed a buildup of residue on the top interior and along the edges and in the corners of the bain marie. Rest rooms do not have a self-closing door.

The Old House Cafe, 34 Lake St., Dallas, May 12., Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Working containers in server station area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Ladies room does not have a self-closing door. Observed buildup of static dust and grease on interior surfaces of exhaust ventilation hood above cook line in need of cleaning

Domino’s Pizza, 2834 Memorial Hwy. Dallas, May 12. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations; Food facility has lost its certified food employee over 3 months ago and has not replaced the certified food employee as required.Facility will enroll an employee in a certification course within 14 days and forward enrollment information to this inspectors attention. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Semolina flour ingredient storage container, in the pizza prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Common bowl no handle being stored in bulk container of Semolina flour. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed hot water valve leaking at the hand-wash station in need of replacement or repair. Observed chemical mixing chambers at manual ware-wash sink leaking into bays.

Dunkin’ Donuts, 3970 Memorial Hwy., Dallas, May 12. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food contact surface of rubber spatula is cracked, peeling and not a smooth easily cleanable surface. Spatula was removed from service. Observed black mold-like substance on cuber head and guard of ice machine. Machine was emptied (disposal of ice), cleaned and sanitized at the time of this inspection.
