DALLAS TWP. — At a time when, nationwide, colleges and universities are grappling with trends that make it harder to meet enrollment goals, Misericordia University has appointed its first-ever vice president of enrollment management.

A media release Thursday noted Glen Bozinski has been given the title, moving from his previous position as director of admissions, held since 2006.

“Bozinski is responsible for the leadership and management of enrollment planning, student recruitment, and undergraduate and graduate admissions,” the release said. “He also oversees the strategic allocation of need- and merit-based financial aid, and collaborates with enrollment marketing to attract and retain qualified students.”

Nationally, institutions of higher learning had a long stretch in which the pool of potential new students kept growing with the number of high school graduates eager to continue their education. That trend has been reversing in recent years, as the number of high school graduates in many states has declined.

According to a recent report from The Chronicle of Higher Education, “The (high school) graduating classes between now and 2023 will all produce fewer students than 2013, the most recent high point.”

Colleges and universities have bucked the trend by recruiting from out of state; signing dual enrollment agreements with community colleges so students can study two years there before transferring to a four-year school; recruiting foreign students; and developing programs for non-traditional students who may have graduated high school years ago but decide to enroll in higher education for new employment options.

By creating and filling the enrollment management post, Misericordia matches King’s College and Wilkes University; both have had the same or a similar position for years.

Bozinski has already expanded enrollment recruitment at Misericordia, the media release said. “He developed institutional and programmatic articulation agreements with regional colleges and universities, and was a member of the team that developed the highly successful Expressway Accelerated Degree Program for adult learners.”
