MOOSIC — WNEP-TV’s Talkback 16 segment gained national attention, being featured on HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a satirical late-night talk show.

The local segment, hosted by Newswatch 16’s Jon Meyer comprises call-ins from audience members about various controversial topics.

One of those controversial topics involves the alternating toy train and trolley that sometimes rides in a circle in WNEP-TV’s studio’s backyard, visible in the background of weather broadcasts. The segment has received many calls about the fixture.

The HBO show featured a compilation of those calls.

“Talkback callers seem to be pretty much obsessed with the train and trolley in our backyard,” Meyer is shown saying at the beginning of the compilation.

Calls varied from complaints about the existence of the train and trolley, the direction, it not running and even complaints about those complaints. Each call was met with laughter from the studio audience.

One featured caller stated that he would like to “put a quarter stick in that train and blow it up.”

“I am so sick of hearing about these idiots worrying about the stupid train in the background already,” another caller from Mountain Top said.

The local news outlet posted a link to the segment on its Facebook page on Monday. Comments on the post attested further to the controversy with more mixed opinions on the train being shared.
