UPDATE: Reports say phone service was restored sometime early Thursday.

A phone outage was being reported in the Back Mountain, Conyngham Borough and Shickshinny areas Wednesday night.

Luzerne County’s 911 Center was notified that a fiber optic cable belonging to Frontier Communications was damaged, resulting in the loss of landline and wireless phone service to a large swath of customers.

As of late last night, Frontier was working to restore service as quickly as possible, which was expected to occur intermittently throughout the night, according to a county press release.

Residents that are unable to dial out and have an emergency are advised to go to the nearest fire or police station for assistance. They could also find alternate means of making an emergency 9-1-1 call.
