HANOVER TWP. — A man wanted for allegedly raping a minor in California was arrested Tuesday in Hanover Township by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.

U.S. Marshals on the West Coast “developed information” that Alexander Martinez, 26, might be staying in the Wilkes-Barre area, a press release says.

The Fugitive Task Force based in Scranton found him in Hanover on Tuesday and arrested him without incident, according to the release from Marshal Martin J. Pane.

Martinez was turned over to local authorities pending court proceedings and extradition to California.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department obtained an arrest warrant in September, charging him with multiple counts of rape of a minor under 18. The offenses are alleged to have occurred in California in 2016.

“It is important to bring those charged with serious sex crimes to justice,” said Pane in a statement. “It is my hope that the victim will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

The release did not say if Martinez is from California or elsewhere.

The Fugitive Task Force worked with the Pennsylvania State Police and Wilkes-Barre City Police on this case.
