HAZLETON —An underage gang member who is wanted in New York on an attempted murder charge was found and arrested in Hazleton on Saturday morning, according to police.

According to the police report:

The New York City Police Department’s Queens South Gang Unit investigated a gang assault in March between the 17-year-old male, who is a member of the Trinitario gang, and a Latin King gang member, who was stabbed multiple times,

The Hazleton Police Department worked with the NYPD Queens South Gang Unit to locate the Trinatario gang member, who authorities believed was residing in Hazleton.

The juvenile was charged and indicted as an adult for attempted murder in the second degree in New York.

Hazleton police received an arrest warrant for the teen on Saturday. Officers on patrol began investigating prior charges on the individual’s record in Hazleton and checked several locations throughout the city where he was known to frequent.

Further investigation led officers to a home in the 1000 block of Grant Avenue, where the male was found in a bedroom and then taken into custody on Saturday at 12:21 a.m.

The fugitive was taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for an overnight arraignment and will be held there until Pennsylvania and New York State District Attorney’s offices coordinate further on the case.
