HAZLETON — A woman was arraigned Tuesday on charges she threatened an ex-boyfriend with a firearm and was in possession of a stolen handgun.

City police arrested Rosa Paredes Gutierrez, 51, when she walked away from a 2005 Toyota Corolla parked on Alter Street near Fourth Street on Monday night.

An arrest warrant was issued for Paredes Gutierrez on Jan. 16, accusing her of aiming a handgun at Raul Tejeda-Tejeda and Bertha Hernandez at Church and Ninth streets on Jan. 15.

Tejeda-Tejeda told police Hernandez was giving him a ride to a grocery store when Paredes Gutierrez followed him in another vehicle. As Hernandez stopped at Church and Ninth streets, Paredes Gutierrez stopped in front and aimed a handgun at them, saying: “Get out of the car!” according to a criminal complaint.

Hernandez instead sped away and called police.

An officer patrolling Alter Street spotted Paredes Gutierrez sitting in a parked Toyota Corolla just before 8 p.m. Monday. Paredes Gutierrez exited the vehicle and was arrested as she walked away.

Police allege a loaded .38-caliber Taurus revolver was found inside the Toyota. The handgun was reported stolen to the Rush Township Police Department, the complaint says.

Paredes Gutierrez allegedly told police she purchased the handgun from a guy on the street for $250.

She was charged with two counts each of simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct plus a single count of receiving stolen property. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $75,000 total bail.
