LOCAL BRIEFS

LUZERNE COUNTY – The Luzerne County Transportation Authority would like to announce that there will be no bus service on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Buses on New Year’s Eve will provide regular service hours.

Administrative offices will close on New Year’s Eve at 1 p.m.

Anyone with questions should call BUS-TIME (287-8463).

LUZERNE – Borough council will hold its work session on Jan. 6, beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the borough building, 144 Academy St. The public is invited.

A special meeting to adopt the 2010 budget will be held on Dec. 30 at 6 p.m. at the borough building.

Borough offices will be closed from noon Dec. 31 until Jan. 4 in observance of the New Year’s holiday.

DURYEA – The 2010 borough garbage stickers are on sale in the borough building. Stickers will be available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on next week. Hours are Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.; and Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Prices of the garbage stickers are: one bag, $80; two bags, $135; three bags, $175, and four bags, $215. The 2010 garbage stickers are due Feb.1.

Borough council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the municipal building. The purpose of the special meeting is to accept the 2010 proposed budget. The public is invited to attend.

HUGHESTOWN – Borough council will meet Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. in the borough building for a reorganization meeting. Mayor-elect Paul Hindmarsh will be sworn in, as well as council members-elect Marie Griglock, Robert Gable, Paul Murphy and Barbara Gatto; auditor-elect Ann Merlino; and tax collector-elect John Poli. District Judge Fred Pierantoni will swear in the officials.

EXETER – Garbage stickers will go on sale on Jan. 4. Prices will be announced next week after the council work session.

Recycling calendars for 2010 are now available at the borough building. Residents can stop in for one from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, residents can get one from the white mailbox next to the building. Any questions, call Lynda at 654-3001, extension 2.

In the event of a snow storm, residents are asked to please remove their vehicles from the street so the street department can get through with the snowplows. Also, residents must remove snow from their sidewalks.
