A last, long parting for a brave sailor

NEWPORT TWP. – Hundreds packed Corpus Christi Parish in Glen Lyon Saturday morning to say their final goodbyes to U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian M. Patton after the nearly 100-car procession made its way from Greater Nanticoke Area High School with a police escort.

Four rows of Department of Corrections members and Navy personnel stood side-by-side as Patton’s silver, American-flag-draped coffin was carried by Navy Honor Guard members from the burgundy hearse into the century-old red-brick church on the hill.

The 37-year old sailor died Nov. 19 in an automobile crash in northern Kuwait that also left his friend, fellow reservist and co-worker Dave Morgan, 35, seriously injured. Morgan is still recovering in the Bethesda Naval Hospital. Both men worked as military police in Kuwait.

Patton leaves behind a wife, Amy Hynoski Patton, 8-year-old son Nicholas, 12-year-old stepson Tyler Kozlofski and 19-year-old son Brian James.
