Back Mountain power back on

KINGSTON TWP. – An equipment failure knocked out power to several thousand UGI Utilities customers in the Back Mountain on Saturday morning.

About 3,000 customers in Courtdale, Luzerne and Trucksville lost power for nearly two hours due to an interruption in electricity flow at a substation in Courtdale, said Keith Adams, a spokesman for UGI Utilities Inc.’s Electric Division in Wilkes-Barre.

Power was fully restored at about 9 a.m., Adams said.

The utility company has not yet determined what caused the equipment to fail, Adams said, adding that the flow of electricity might have been interrupted because of a power surge.
