Bishop Joseph Martino announced the following clergy appointments, transfers and special assignments within the Diocese of Scranton in the July 10 edition of The Catholic Light. All are effective July 9, except for special assignments or those otherwise noted. Changes in Luzerne County according to the Catholic Light include
Pastors Emeriti:
• The Rev. Mark J. Bochinski of the Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, Avoca, will become pastor emeritus there.
• The Rev. Joseph M. Brozena of the Church of St. Michael, Old Forge, will become pastor emeritus there.
Pastors and Administrators:
• The Rev. Joseph R. Kakareka will leave the churches of St. Mary/Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mocanaqua; Ascension of the Lord, Mocanaqua; and St. Martha, Fairmount Springs, to become administrator of the Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, Avoca.
• The Rev. Stephen A. Krawontka will leave the churches of St. Joseph and St. Stanislaus, both in Hazleton, to become administrator of the churches of St. Mary/Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mocanaqua; Ascension of the Lord, Mocanaqua; and St. Martha, Fairmount Springs.
• The Rev. James E. McGahagan will leave the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Hanover Township, to become administrator at the churches of St. Patrick and St. Boniface, both in Wilkes-Barre.
• The Rev. Edward L. Michelini will leave the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Pittston, to become administrator at the Church of Mater Dolorosa, Williamsport, and chaplain at St. John Neumann Regional Academy, Williamsport.
• The Rev. W. Jeffrey Paulish will leave the churches of St. Mary and St. Lawrence O’Toole, both in Old Forge, to become administrator at the Church of St. Elizabeth, Bear Creek.
• The Rev. Paul Lourduraj Pudhota will leave the churches of St. Peter, Wellsboro, and St. John Neumann, Blossburg, to become administrator at the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Hanover Township.
• The Rev. James B. Shimsky will become administrator at the Church of St. Frances X. Cabrini, Carverton.
• The Rev. Daniel A. Toomey will leave the Church of St. Frances X. Cabrini, Carverton, and his role as chaplain at Misericordia University, Dallas Township, to become administrator at the Church of Corpus Christi, Montdale.
Assistant Pastors:
• The Rev. Michael S. McCormick will leave the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord, Scranton, to become assistant pastor at the Churches of St. Joseph and St. Stanislaus, both in Hazleton.
• The Rev. Connell A. McHugh will leave his post as chaplain at Holy Redeemer High School, Wilkes-Barre, to become assistant pastor at the churches of St. John Bosco, Conyngham, and Good Shepherd, Drums.
• The Rev. Arbogaste Satoun will leave his post as chaplain at Marywood University, Scranton, to become assistant pastor at the Churches of the Immaculate Conception, West Pittston, and Holy Redeemer, Harding/Falls.
Special Assignments:
• The Rev. James J. Alco will leave the churches of the Sacred Heart-St. John and St. Stanislaus Kostka, all in Wilkes-Barre, to take residence at St. Joseph Oblate Seminary, Pittston, for reasons of health.
• The Rev. David R. Betts will be off leave of absence for reasons of health and move to residence at the churches of Sacred Heart-St. John, and St. Stanislaus Kostka, all in Wilkes-Barre.
• The Rev. Brian J. T. Clarke will leave the churches of St. Thomas Aquinas, Archbald, and St. Mary of Czestochowa, Eynon, to become chaplain at Holy Redeemer High School, Wilkes-Barre. Clarke will reside at St. Ignatius Rectory, Kingston.
• The Rev. Brian J. W. Clarke will become vice chancellor of the Diocese of Scranton, effective June 30.
• Monsignor Michael J. Delaney will no longer be on a leave of absence for health and will reside in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Pittston.
• Monsignor Joseph P. Kelly will become Episcopal Vicar for Hispanic Ministry. Kelly will continue as executive director of Catholic Social Services and as administrator at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Wilkes-Barre.
• The Rev. Leo J. McKernan will leave the church of St. Elizabeth, Bear Creek, to become diocesan preacher for “Called to Holiness and Mission.” He will reside at St. Leo Rectory, Ashley.
• The Rev. Andrew R. Sinnott will leave the churches of St. Patrick and St. Boniface, both in Wilkes-Barre, to become Episcopal Vicar of the Eastern Pastoral Region.
• The Rev. Donald J. Williams will leave his residence at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Forest City, to become chaplain at Misericordia University, Dallas Township. Williams will reside at St. Frances X. Cabrini Rectory, Carverton.
