Cops: Meth lab found in Glen Lyon

Chemicals used to make the drug are found, police say; 3 are charged, another sought.

NEWPORT TWP. – Three people were arrested and a fourth is being sought after a methamphetamine lab was found in a home in the Glen Lyon section, police said.

Marjorie Olena Fitzsimmons, 42, and her husband, Peter Orrin Arnold, 42, were arraigned Thursday morning on 48 counts of possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture meth at 8 Rock St., according to court records.

The couple was also charged with six counts of recklessly endangering another person, four counts each of corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of their four teenage children, who were placed in the care of Luzerne County Children and Youth.

Police are still looking for Douglas Baltezore, who is wanted in connection with running the lab.

Kelly Lynn Malleo, 31, who was living at the couple’s home, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a glass pipe used to smoke meth was found in her 1991 Chevrolet, police said. Police found her sleeping in the vehicle in a wooded area nearby.

According to an affidavit filed by Newport Township police:

Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police officer Justin St. Clair assisted Brian D. Zboray of Children and Youth in an investigation into the welfare of children living at the home.

St. Clair observed solid waste in the rear of the residence. Several gas containers were found on the rear porch, along with a container with discolored brown liquids.

St. Clair and Zboray both noticed a chemical smell and spoke with Arnold. Zboray asked Arnold to allow him inside to inspect the condition of the four children, but he refused, saying authorities could not enter without a warrant.

Arnold later allowed police inside and the teens were removed from the home.

Officers then began a room-to-room inspection. Items and equipment for the manufacturing and ingesting of meth and other controlled substances were found.

The state police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team was dispatched. Police found additional items in a first-floor bedroom, including bags with needles, empty bottles of iodine tincture, numerous coffee filters with red residue and a gallon container of chemicals.

A note pad detailing how to make methamphetamine was found, along with three packages of pseudophedrine, numerous glass containers and silverware with drug residue, propane cans, a glass pipe and various chemicals commonly used for the manufacturing of meth.

Fitzsimmons, Arnold and Malleo were arraigned Thursday before District Judge Donald Whittaker of Nanticoke. They were taken to county prison, each on $75,000 cash bail. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Aug. 28 in Central Court.
