KINGSTON TWP.- A Luzerne County physician lost control of his bicycle along
a steep stretch of Carverton Road on Tuesday morning and slammed into the
front of an oncoming sports utility vehicle, police said.
Dr. James Heintz, 39, of East Center Street, Shavertown, was listed in
critical condition at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Tuesday night, said a
hospital spokeswoman.
Heintz was westbound on Carverton Road near Staub Road around 6:40 a.m.
when he lost control. The brakes on the bike locked, but Heintz continued to
skid about 150 feet into the eastbound lane.
The driver of the oncoming 1991 Ford Explorer slowed and pulled to the side
of the road, but Heintz hit the vehicle head-on, police said. Heintz, who
police said was wearing a helmet, crashed into the windshield and rolled to
