Crash case court date rescheduled

Police believed woman was fleeing boyfriend before crash, which she denied.

KINGSTON – A summary trial of a woman who was recently cited in a three-vehicle crash involving her ex-boyfriend has been continued.

Victoria Calabro, 24, of Kingston, who was severely injured in the Oct. 25 wreck, was issued numerous traffic citations last month for exceeding the speed limit, passing through a red traffic signal and crashing into an oil tanker.

The three-vehicle crash occurred in the early morning hours in front of the former Tudor Book Shop & Caf at the corner of West Union Street and Wyoming Avenue.

Calabro’s trial scheduled for Wednesday morning has been continued to July 21.

Police at the time believed Calabro might have been chased by a vehicle driven by Michael Kozloski, 26, of Pittston, which Calabro denies. A search warrant to obtain mobile phone records for Calabro was filed Nov. 13.

“She says she wasn’t being chased and they weren’t having a problem,” said Kingston police Capt. Dan Hunsinger. “I think she was just trying to protect him, but I can’t prove that.”

The warrant states that Calabro and Kozloski had a history of domestic violence.

An accident reconstruction report has been completed by state police at Wyoming.

Police met with the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office to discuss possible charges, according to Hunsinger, and decided summary citations were appropriate against both drivers because Calabro was unable to tell police anything different.

Hunsinger said Calabro entered the intersection with her foot holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor.

Kozloski faces similar charges, including reckless driving, careless driving and driving under suspension, in connection with the early morning crash.

Calabro’s Pontiac and another vehicle traveling behind her, driven by Kozloski, crashed into the rig on Wyoming Avenue. Calabro and Kozloski were heading east on West Union Street. The driver of the truck, Joseph Woody, 37, of Forest City, was treated for a minor injury.

Police said Calabro, who at the time of the crash was 23 years old and a student at Luzerne County Community College, was found pinned under the driver’s side of the dashboard inside her vehicle.
