Deceased woman’s spouse found

Brian Keith Amrowski, wanted for allegedly stealing car rented by estranged wife, caught in Nevada.

Nevada police on Monday captured an area man wanted for allegedly stealing a vehicle rented by his estranged wife, who was found dead on June 22.

Brian Keith Amrowski, 31, of Fairmont Township, was apprehended at a motel in South Carson City by the Carson City Sheriffs Department and the U.S. Marshals Service at about 3 p.m., said state police Lt. Richard Krawetz.

Amrowski had been sought since Wednesday when police obtained an arrest warrant charging him with stealing a 2008 Kia Spectra rented by his wife, Rebecca Lynne Amrowski, 26, from Enterprise Rentals in Wilkes-Barre on June 19.

Rebecca Amrowski was found dead from a reported gunshot wound in the basement of her home on Red Hill Road on June 22, authorities said. According to arrest records, Rebecca Amrowski was scheduled to return the vehicle on June 22.

Police learned Brian Amrowski and William Bilby loaded the rented vehicle with supplies on June 19, telling Bilby’s mother, Nancy, that they were going on a trip, according to arrest records.

Bilby was with Amrowski when he was captured, according to the Nevada Appeal newspaper in Carson City.

Carson City Sheriff Capt. Ken Sandage didn’t immediately return a message for comment Monday afternoon.

Sandage told the Nevada Appeal on Monday that Amrowski was no longer in possession of the rental car, and that he and Bilby had been gold mining in Nevada and they’d hitchhiked into Carson City.

Krawetz said the investigation into Rebecca Amrowski’s death is continuing.

Her obituary that was published on Sunday doesn’t include her husband’s name, and lists her address as Mountain Top.

A search warrant that was obtained on Monday by authorities for the Fairmount Township home after her body was found was sealed by a county judge on Friday. Several other search warrants obtained as a result of the investigation have also been sealed.

County Coroner John Corcoran said after an autopsy on June 23 that he didn’t believe Rebecca Amrowski’s death to be suspicious.

Despite the coroner’s opinion, county District Attorney Jacqueline Musto Carroll and Krawetz said the investigation is continuing because of Rebecca Amrowski’s age and failed attempts to reach the husband.

Police charged Brian Keith Amrowski with theft and receiving stolen property in connection with the vehicle.

It remained unknown Monday afternoon when Amrowski will be transported to Luzerne County.
