Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden will be making his first trip to his hometown on Monday, Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty confirmed Friday morning.
Doherty said he was unaware of what events Biden might be attending, but knew the Delaware senator would be in town. Secret Service officials have been in contact with the city's police department to coordinate the visit.
"We are thrilled to have him," Doherty said, noting the boy from the Green Ridge section of town has done good for himself being named a vice-president candidate.
"Everybody knows the senator and he comes back often."
Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware will be in Scranton on Labor Day, a source close to the Democratic campaign said.
Biden will return to his former hometown for a visit just days after he and presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, left the Democratic National Convention in Denver, where they accepted the nominations of their party. Biden is also set to March in Pittsburgh’s Labor Day Parade. Sean Smith, spokesman for the Obama campaign, said he could not confirm the local Biden appearance.
