U.S. Rep. Chris Carney’s re-election campaign has joined the campaign of fellow Democratic incumbent Paul Kanjorski in surpassing the $2 million mark, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.
Carney, the freshman congressman from Dimock Township, raised nearly twice the amount raised by his opponent, Chris Hackett, in the last quarter, but also spent nearly double of what Hackett spent.
The deadline to file third-quarter financial statements was Wednesday and a review of those disclosures shows Carney raised $381,151 for the quarter beginning July 1 and ending Sept. 30.
His campaign spent more than double that in expenditures during that time span, reporting expenditures of $950,049. At the end of the quarter, Carney reported $581,198 cash on hand, thanks to beginning the cycle with $1.15 million cash on hand.
For the election cycle, Carney has reported $2,038,630 in contributions.
During the past quarter, Carney took in $229,496 from individual donors and raised $152,710 from political action committees and an additional $2,009 from political party contributions.
Hackett, a Republican businessman from Kingston Township, started the quarter with considerably less cash on hand at $267,000. He was able to raise $351,561 for the quarter -- $237,101 from individuals and $114,460 from PACs -- but spent $591,520 during the three-month cycle.
The report said that Hackett has raised $1,158,876 during the election cycle, excluding loans.
Hackett also loaned his campaign $250,000. For the election cycle, Hackett has reported loaning his campaign $990,000. He reported $330,673 cash on hand at the end of the quarter.
