Feds allege man wanted missiles

PHILADELPHIA — Federal investigators in Philadelphia have arrested a man with residences in Lebanon and Slovakia who they say wanted to obtain weapons, including anti-aircraft missiles, to ship to Syria.

Investigators say Dani Nemr Tarraf wanted weapons needed to “take down an F-16,” according to an affidavit released Monday.

The affidavit says Tarraf paid a $20,000 deposit for the missiles and machine guns, and traveled Friday to Philadelphia to inspect them.

Investigators say Tarraf and Hussein Ali Asfour, of Centerville, Ga., were involved in a plot that began with transporting stolen cell phones, laptops and gaming systems, but Tarraf escalated it to include weapons.
