Former Kingston detective in court

A former Kingston police detective accused of impersonating a police officer will face charges in Berks County Court of Common Pleas.

Daniel Griffin, 45, of Swoyersville, appeared on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Gail M. Greth in Richmond Township, Berks County, who forwarded charges of impersonating a public servant and false identification to Berks County court.

Fleetwood police accused Griffin of identifying himself as a police officer when he was stopped for speeding in Richmond Township on May 7, according to arrest records.

Griffin is also facing a charge of firearms not to be carried without a license in Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas after Wilkes-Barre police allege they found a loaded .25-caliber handgun inside his vehicle when it was parked on East Northampton Street on May 13.

Griffin was terminated from the Kingston police force in December 2007 after he was accused, and later convicted, of forging the name of a former police chief for the personal purchase of a firearm, according to court records.
