Luzerne County 911 received a call reporting a structure fire at 1243 Foster Ave. just before 1 a.m. Sunday, according to a fire company news release.

Firefighters found fire shooting though the roof when they arrived. An aggressive interior fire attack was conducted, which resulted in the structure being saved. The fire was brought under control in about 25 minutes.

The occupant of the residence, Brenda Kolaski, 55, was at home when the fire was discovered. She was treated at the scene by White Haven EMS and was taken to Hazleton General Hospital for evaluation. She was treated and released a short time later.

The majority of the fire was held to a bathroom and the attic area of the ranch-style home. The rest of the structure sustained water damage.

Firefighters from White Haven and Foster Township were originally dispatched to the scene. Additional firefighters from Dennison Township and Freeland were called to provide assistance. Other calls were canceled when the fire was quickly brought under control.

Fire officials conducted a routine follow-up at the scene late Sunday morning. While meeting with family members, they found a few areas still steaming. A fire engine was called to the scene and firefighters removed some debris from the attic and wet down the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the township fire company and the state police fire marshal.
