Marie Santilli was named 2009 Women’s History Month Honoree for her years of service in county government, as office manager to former U.S. Reps. Joseph McDade and Don Sherwood, and for her volunteer work within the Republican Party and area community organizations.

A proclamation was received by U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter.

Past honorees include Renee Amore, Dr. Linda Barrasse, state Rep. Sandra Major, Mary Dippre, Toni Gilhooley, Linda Keene, Fran DeWitt, Lackawanna County Judge Trish Corbett and state Sen. Lisa Baker.

March is designated Women’s History Month.

“It is a time to reflect on our struggles, celebrate our achievements, and acknowledge our contribution to society as homemakers, community activists and career professionals,” Davenport said.

The council, celebrating 10 years of supporting Republican candidates, continues to unite Republican women, keep them informed and empower them to have a voice in government as well as help develop and support women political candidates.
