Gotay sentenced to 10-15 years

WILKES-BARRE – Fernando M. Gotay was sentenced to 10 to 15 by Luzerne County Judge Joseph Augello today.

On March 1, a jury found Gotay, 26, of Tobyhanna, guilty of voluntary manslaughter and related drug charges in the December 2008 shooting death of 22-year-old Donald Spry.

He faced a maximum sentence of 20 years for the convictions.

Gotay also faced a third-degree murder charge in the Wilkes-Barre man’s death, but the jury found him not guilty of that charge. He faced between 10 and 20 years following the jury verdict last week.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, Gotay was convicted on possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver after a jury deliberated for more than two hours.
