Hearing on exposure case set

FREELAND – A borough man who faces charges for allegedly exposing himself to several juveniles is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing next week.

Martin J. Brodbeck, 45, of 559 Washington St., Apt. 3, was arraigned last Saturday on counts of felony unlawful contact with minors and misdemeanor open lewdness, court records indicate.

He is jailed at Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 straight bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Borough police responded at about 6:37 p.m. to a radio call regarding an older man exposing himself to a group of juveniles playing in the area.

The juveniles alleged the man, later identified as Brodbeck, told them he only wanted little girls to perform sex acts on him before he walked south, stopped and pulled down his pants exposing his rear end.

Police said the juveniles – all under the age of 16 – reported the incident to adults who in turn called 911. One of the residents living in the area told police the suspect’s name and address.

Brodbeck was later found in the area of Cottage Hotel on Washington Street, police said.

Brodbeck was taken to police headquarters where he initially denied ever having contact with the minors, but later admitted to only bearing his rear end, police said.

A preliminary hearing has been tentatively scheduled for June 2 in Central Court.
