Kingston police dog, Macso, dies

Kingston police drug detection canine, Macso, died Tuesday after nearly three years of service, Police Chief Keith Keiper said.

The German shepherd was donated to the police department by the Wyoming Valley West School District. The dog was “sworn in” by Mayor James Haggerty during a ceremony before a Kingston council meeting in 2005.

Keiper said Macso worked side-by-side with his handler Sgt. Sam Blaski, in helping in the fight against illegal drugs and providing education, safety and companionship to students.

A memorial service for Macso is being planned, Keiper said. The cause of Macso’s death has not been determined.
