L-L eyes lease for outdoor equipment

LEHMAN TWP. – The Lake-Lehman School Board mulled a municipal lease purchase for outdoor power equipment on Monday evening.

Jim Cunningham of John Deere Co. and Gordon Williams of Lehman Power Equipment presented the board with a list of equipment from John Deere totaling $149,872.71. The equipment would be acquired through a municipal lease purchase, which means the purchase price is determined using state contract prices.

The school district would own the equipment at the end of the lease. The old equipment, with the exception of two tractors, would be put up for bid.

Cunningham told the board that once the equipment is purchased, the district could return it to the dealer with a few constraints.

A vote on the equipment will occur at one of the next several board meetings.

The school board will hold a special meeting to cast a final vote on the 2009-10 fiscal budget at 7 p.m. Monday, June 29, in the library of the junior/senior high school.

In other news, board first vice president Moderno Rossi announced that a “Miles for McKenna” walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27 at the football stadium. The walk will raise funds for McKenna Budzak, an upcoming kindergartener at Ross Elementary School who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

A Chinese auction and bake sale will also be held.

The cost to participate in the fundraiser is $20 for adults and $16 for children. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and a ticket for the Chinese auction.
