LCCC suing ex-dean accused of stealing

Filing comes four months after Peter Moses filed a whistleblower lawsuit against college in Nanticoke.

WILKES-BARRE – Luzerne County Community College has filed court papers to institute a lawsuit against a former associate dean who is charged with stealing funds from the school.

Attorney Joe Kluger of Hourigan, Kluger and Quinn on Sept. 30 filed a writ of summons against Peter Moses. The document, filed in Luzerne County Court, notifies a person a lawsuit has been filed, but does not contain specific allegations. That information will be contained in a complaint filed at a later date.

The filing comes four months after Moses filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the college in which he alleged he was falsely accused of theft because he reported wrongdoing by several college officials.

That suit, filed on Aug. 3, alleged Moses tried to expose improprieties with the awarding of no-bid contracts and the hiring of an employee at the school. He contends he was targeted for termination because of that, leading to the filing of false allegations against him.

Moses, the former associate dean of administration and auxiliary services, was charged in September 2008 with stealing more than $17,000 and two computers from the school. Police allege Moses stole the money from the school’s cafeteria, which he oversaw as part of his duties.

Moses was scheduled to go on trial on the charges in May, but the case has been postponed several times at his request. He is now scheduled for trial in January.

Contacted Monday, Kluger said he could not comment on the nature of the college’s suit or whether it is related to the allegations that Moses stole money from the school.

The college recently filed court papers seeking to have Moses’ suit against the college dismissed. That issue is pending before a county judge.
