Lake Twp. decides on road grader, paving bids

Contracts awarded to Casterline Diesel and Penn State Seed Supply of Pittston.

LAKE TWP. – Bids to replace a trusty, old road grader and to resurface North Mountain Road confronted supervisors last Thursday night.

Supervisors opened three bids to replace the township’s 1972 Gallon road grader. Two bids from Bradco Supply Co., Towanda, offered 1990 John Deer 772BH for $50,000 or a 1989 John Deer 670B for $35,000. Both prices included a $5,000 trade-in on the old grader.

Casterline Diesel, Sweet Valley, offered a 1987 John Deer 672B for $36,500 with a $5,000 trade-in.

Supervisors chose Casterline Diesel’s bid.

Supervisor Lonnie Piatt said he knew the road crew requested a machine with all-wheel drive to aid in snow removal. Supervisor Bob Grey, also road foreman, advised that the 1987 grader would meet the needs of the township.

Supervisors chose Penn State Seed Supply of Pittston for the resurfacing work on North Mountain Road. The bids were: Penn State Seed Supply, $28, 975; American Asphalt, Shavertown, $30,277.50; Pikes Creek Site Contractors, Hunlock Creek, $29,302; and Barletta Construction, Hazleton, $35,924.

Work on North Mountain Road will begin as soon as the contracts are signed. Work to Loyalville Road is pending on approval of the Community Development grant, Supervisor Amy Salansky said.

In other business, supervisors voted unanimously for a motion to oppose consolidating earned income tax credits. Salansky said that in the past the earned income tax credits were attributed to the municipality a person resides in.

With the new proposed law, the funds from the consolidation of the earned income taxes would go to the county and then be dispersed.

Also, it was announced a letter has been composed and will be sent to all residents regarding the proper procedures of burning household waste. Supervisors are hoping it will clarify confusion as to when to burn and what to burn.

New summer hours for the township secretary began Tuesday. They are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
