An investigation is under way into the death of an inmate who became ill Saturday morning at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas.
The prisoner, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, became sick and was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he died, said Luzerne County Coroner John P. Corcoran.
“We have no suspicions yet of foul play,” Corcoran said. “We don’t speculate until we do our investigations.”
A cause and manner of death has not been determined, pending results of an autopsy scheduled for this morning.
State police at Wyoming are investigating the young man’s death.
District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll said she has been notified of the inmate’s death, but had no further details of the probe.
Corcoran said it is procedure for his office to investigate inmate deaths.
Prison officials could not be reached Saturday night.
