Man, woman jailed in dispute; both face assault charges

Large knife removed from arm of man, who said girlfriend threw it at him, say police.

NANTICOKE – Paramedics on Tuesday removed a large butcher knife from the arm of Jeffrey Boston, who said his girlfriend, Victoria Shanks, threw it at him during a dispute, according to charges filed.

Police said the approximately 11 -inch knife was embedded in Boston’s left arm.

Shanks was charged with two counts of simple assault and a single count of aggravated assault. Boston was charged with simple assault and harassment after Shanks alleged he pushed her and threw an iced tea container at her.

Shanks and Boston were arraigned Tuesday afternoon and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 and $25,000 bail, respectively.

Boston said he was arguing with Shanks for most of the day on Tuesday. He said that during the argument she told him to leave their East Green Street apartment. Boston was walking up the stairs when, he alleged, Shanks threw the butcher knife that became embedded in his arm, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said paramedics removed the knife from Boston’s arm and he was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township and released.

Shanks denied stabbing Boston, telling police she was in a bedroom with her two children for most of the day on Tuesday. She said she heard Boston yell “I can’t believe you (expletive) stabbed me” and then running down the stairs, the criminal complaint says.

Shanks said Boston was upset about their relationship ending and damage to her vehicle. She alleged Boston was “pushing her around physically and harassing her all day,” and threw a plastic iced tea pitcher that struck her.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled on Sept. 7 before District Judge Donald Whittaker in Nanticoke.
