KINGSTON – A Wilkes-Barre Township man threatened to harm a 2-year-old girl unless police stopped pursuing him after he allegedly raped the child’s mother last month, according to Wright Township police.
George Wesley Boston, 34, of North Walnut Street, was arraigned Monday on charges of rape, child endangerment and pursuit immediately after being released from First Hospital in Kingston.
According to arrest records, Boston allegedly forced his way inside a South Mountain Road residence on June 28 and raped a woman at knifepoint. When the woman escaped, Boston took the woman’s child and led police on a several-mile pursuit that ended in White Haven, where he stabbed himself in the neck, according to arrest records.
Boston was charged with four counts of driving under the influence, three counts of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, two counts each of rape, indecent assault, criminal trespass, theft, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person, and one count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, simple assault, burglary, endangering the welfare of children, unlawful restraint, resisting arrest and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He was arraigned before District Judge Paul J. Roberts Jr. in Kingston and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail. During his arraignment, Boston said he has an addiction to alcohol.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Sgt. Royce Engler and Officer Kristen Paulshock:
The woman told police Boston raped her at knifepoint after forcing his way into her residence at about 7:30 a.m. June 28. He threatened to kill her if she called 911, and shoved a pillow in her face to keep her quiet. The woman escaped by climbing out of a window when Boston left her bedroom to unplug an air conditioner. She ran to a neighbor’s place and watched Boston leave with the girl, she told police.
Police said Boston sped away in the woman’s vehicle. They pursued the vehicle on Route 309 toward Ashley. Police said Boston called the woman, claiming he was going to harm her child if police continued to pursue him.
Boston struck a guide rail when he turned onto Pine Run Road in Hanover Township. Police from several municipalities pursued Boston to Route 115 in Bear Creek Township and then onto White Haven Road in Bear Creek Village.
Ashley police Chief David Cerski blocked an entrance ramp preventing Boston from driving onto Interstate 80, the criminal complaint says.
Boston stopped in White Haven, and police removed the girl from the vehicle. The child was not properly secured in a safety seat, police said.
Boston remained in the vehicle and stabbed himself in the neck, the criminal compliant says. He was initially treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, and later transferred to First Hospital for a mental evaluation.
Police said the girl was unharmed but was treated at a hospital as a precaution. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 23 in Central Court.
