Man charged with DUI again

Kingston man was arrested Tuesday. He was charged in October in another incident.

KINGSTON – Police arraigned a Kingston man Wednesday on evidence of drunken driving, his second arrest for an alleged DUI in as many months.

James Thomas Dormio, 49, of Market Street, was charged with driving under the influence and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Dormio was arrested by Kingston Township police on Oct. 18, when he was allegedly seen driving a vehicle without a wheel on the Dallas Memorial Highway.

According to the latest criminal complaint filed by Kingston police:

Mary Guchanas told police that her son, Dormio, took her 2001 Buick without permission while she was watching television Tuesday night. Police said they spotted Dormio driving the vehicle on Market Street around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Dormio exhibited signs of intoxication and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, the criminal complaint says.

Police took Dormio to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where a blood-alcohol test was performed.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 25 before District Judge Paul Roberts in Kingston.

Kingston Township police allege Dormio was observed Oct. 18 driving a 1994 Chevrolet Berreta without a right rear wheel on Memorial Highway. Police said a trail of sparks was coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Police said they pursued Dormio for more than a mile until he stopped near Carverton Road.

Dormio told police he was aware he was missing a wheel and was trying to drive to his Kingston home from the Dollar General store in Shavertown.

Police said Dormio exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for a blood-alcohol test that revealed a blood-alcohol content of .098 percent.

Police said Dormio was in the Dollar General store where he allegedly stole a Tracfone cellular phone that was found in the Chevrolet.

Police charged Dormio with two counts of driving under the influence, and one count each of reckless driving and retail theft. The charges were filed with District Judge James Tupper and mailed to Dormio on Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10 before Tupper on the Kingston Township charges.
