Plans for a memorial service and a fundraising benefit comedy show have been finalized for Wilkes-Barre native U.S. Army Sgt. Douglas Bull.
Friends and family will be celebrating Bull’s life from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bull’s alma mater, Meyers High School. He graduated from the high school in 1997.
To celebrate Bull’s sense of humor and love of life, a comedy show will be held in his honor from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the River Street Jazz Caf�. All money raised will be donated to two agencies, The Fisher House Foundation and the Gold Star Family Foundation, at the request of his family.
Bull was seriously wounded when a bomb exploded near his vehicle on July 8 as he was on a routine patrol in Chow Kay Valley, Afghanistan. The 29-year-old soldier died later that day at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan.
Bull, a combat engineer, was deployed to the war zone in June with the 1st Infantry Division from Fort Hood, Texas.
He previously served in Iraq for a year and in Germany.
Bull is survived by a wife, Tera, children Arianna and Jaden, and parents Mary Rambus of Edwardsville and Chris Bull of Wapwallopen.
• A memorial service will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Meyers High School auditorium on Carey Avenue.
• A fundraising benefit comedy show will be held 8-10 p.m. Saturday at the River Street Jazz Caf� on 667 N. River St., Plains Township. Admission fee is $10 and all the proceeds will be placed into Sgt. Bull’s Memorial Fund and donated to two charities selected by his family.
