WILKES-BARRE – The former treasurer of a mini-football organization, charged with stealing nearly $24,000 from the Wilkes-Barre Bears, waived her right to a preliminary hearing at Central Court on Wednesday.
Marybeth Miller, 39, of 860 Blytheburn Road, Dorrance Township, was charged July 11 with various felony counts of theft, according to an arrest affidavit.
She was scheduled to appear Wednesday morning for a preliminary hearing that had been continued in July.
Miller, formerly known as Marybeth Snyder, is accused of taking the money from the team’s accounts for her personal use starting in 2003 or 2004, court records show.
According to arrest papers, Miller told authorities she took the money but planned to pay it back as soon as her husband, Edward Snyder, got his paycheck, but there was not enough left over.
She told police she used the money for various purposes, such as paying bills.
