LAFLIN – Borough Council is forming a garbage committee and invites residents to provide input regarding the current garbage service and any suggestions for improvements. To sign up for the committee, contact the secretary by calling 654-3323 or stopping at the borough building, 47 Laflin Road.

AVOCA – Council will hold an informational meeting for residents at 7 p.m. on Monday, in the basement of the West Side Social Club, 711 McAlpine St. Avoca Borough Solicitor Charles D. McCormick will speak to residents and answer questions regarding the county reassessment process.

• The Avoca Borough Street Department will collect two white goods per household displaying a valid 2008 garbage sticker. Allowable items include: washer, dryer, refrigerator and freezer (with doors removed), hot water heater, air conditioner. Microwave ovens are not acceptable.

Items should be placed at curbside the night before collection, with the following pickup schedule:

First ward, Monday, July 21; second ward, Tuesday, July 22; and third ward, Wednesday, July 23.

DUPONT – Yard waste is now being picked up on Tuesdays only. Residents can call the DPW to make special arrangements for pick-up of larger loads of branches.

PLYMOUTH – Dog owners in the borough are reminded that the borough has an ordinance that requires animal owners to clean up after their pets on both public and private property. In addition, residents who walk their dogs within the borough must do so using a leash, and the animal must be under the owner’s control at all times. The borough coordinator has been receiving complaints of owners allowing their dogs to defile walkways, parks and other public areas in the borough. The code enforcement officers and police department have been instructed to step up their enforcement of the ordinance. Owners who fail to comply could face a citation along with a fine of $100.

DURYEA – The regular monthly meeting of the Duryea Borough Sewer Authority will be held on Monday. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the municipal building. The public is invited.

WARRIOR RUN – Tax Collector Mary Ann Brodginski announces the 2008 Hanover Area school taxes will be mailed on Monday. Anyone who does not receive a bill is asked to call the tax office. Hours for collection are 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday or by appointment by calling the tax office at 825-4043. The 2008 county/borough taxes are in penalty and can be paid at the tax office until Dec. 31.

SWOYERSVILLE – Residents are advised that effective July 8, the price of garbage stickers was raised to $1.75, a 25 cent increase. This is the first increase in more than 14 years. The borough will honor stickers purchased in the past.
