Nanticoke man charged in beating death

WILKES-BARRE -- Wilkes-Barre police and the Luzerne County District Attorney's office have charged Zireek Rahim Gardner, 18, of East Main Street, Nanticoke, with the beating death of William Bentley.

An arrest warrant for Gardner was issued earlier today, and Gardner was arrested and arraigned before District Magistrate William Amesbury. Gardner was jailed on $75,000 straight bail

Bentley died Friday after he was assaulted Thursday in front of Schiel’s Family Market on Hanover Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Gardner is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

An autopsy showed Bentley died from blunt head trauma.
