WILKES-BARRE – A Noxen woman was taken to a hospital after she lost control of her vehicle and ran into a downtown optical center building around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, city police said.
Police said they believe the crash occurred as the driver, Diane Hoyt, 44, exited Park N Lock Central at South Washington Street, a one-way street between East Northampton and East Market streets.
As Hoyt left the garage, her 1994 Ford Thunderbird jumped a curb, ran into shrubbery and struck a light fixture at the Biernacki Eye Associates building at 82 S. Washington St., police said.
The optical center is located about 30 feet away from the garage. There was no damage to the building, police said.
Hoyt was found unresponsive at the wheel and without a pulse, police said. Emergency responders began CPR. The victim regained her pulse.
Police said Hoyt was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. She was being treated at the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Her condition was not known Saturday night.
Police believe a medical episode might have caused the accident. The driver had a medical history, police said.
No other occupants were inside the vehicle, police said.
