Out-of-court settlement ends newspaper dispute

SCRANTON – The Times Leader has reached an out-of-court settlement of a lawsuit that alleged the newspaper plagiarized obituaries published by the Scranton Times-Tribune.

Ralph Kates, attorney for The Times Leader, said there was no monetary payment involved. The settlement agreement contains no admission of wrongdoing. The two newspapers agreed to settle the dispute by having The Times Leader’s publisher, Richard Connor, write a letter of apology to publishers of The Times-Tribune.
