YATESVILLE – Pittston Area school officials agreed Tuesday to look into a pre-emptive move into the open electricity market, after hearing a presentation from an energy buyer.
The move is prompted by the removal of electricity rate caps at the end of the year, and the announcement that the PPL electricity rate likely to apply to the district will be about 10.5 cents per kilowatt hour.
Steve Beck of Direct Energy, the buying company, noted that a savings of 2 cents per kilowatt hour would probably save the district close to $200,000 annually.
