PLAINS TWP. -- The Committee to Elect Jim Height for Wilkes-Barre Area School Director will hold a meet-and-greet rally from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Polish American Veterans Club, 2 Oak St., Plains Township.

JENKINS TWP. – There will be an “Old-Fashioned” Rally 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, hosted by Phil Struzzeri, candidate for Jenkins Township supervisor, at the Inkerman Lithuanian Club, 1 Winter St., Inkerman. The program will start around 8 p.m.
Judicial, county and school board candidates will attend. All candidates should have their campaign literature on hand. Food and beverages will be served all evening.
SWOYERSVILLE -- The Luzerne County and Fifth District Democratic committees will co-sponsor a “Meet the Candidates Night” 7 p.m. today at the Swoyersville American Legion, Shoemaker Street, Swoyersville. The event is free.
PITTSTON TWP. – State Constable Major Edward J. Holleran of Pittston Township has announced he will run for re-election for township-elected constable on the Democratic ticket.
Holleran was a Pittston Township police officer for 10 years and has been a state constable for the past 32 years. He is founder of the Luzerne County Constable Association, for which he was president for three years. He serves as a liaison officer between the courts and constables.
Holleran graduated from Lackawanna County Junior College Constable School in 1992 and is a Vietnam veteran. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lithunanian Club, American Legion, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Donegal Society.
He is married to the former Virginia Orleski. They have two sons, Robert and Edward Jr. The family attends the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hughestown.
WILKES-BARRE TWP. – Township officials have announced their endorsement of Edd Brominski for Luzerne County Controller.
Mayor Carl Kuren, former Mayor Robert E. Delescavage and council Chairwoman Mary Yuknavich have united behind Brominski.
Wilkes-Barre Township Republican officials held a meet-the-candidate party for Brominski at the Wilkes-Barre Township Fire Hall on April 24.
WEST PITTSTON – William Goldsworthy is seeking re-election as mayor of West Pittston.
Goldsworthy is a 1972 graduate of Wyoming Area and 1976 graduate of Wilkes University. He resides in the borough with his wife, Jannet, and their four children, Brandon, Carrie, Aimee and Karyn.
Goldsworthy is the vice president of major accounts at Golden Business Machines Inc., and is also a licensed real estate agent working for Rothstein Inc. Realtors.
Goldsworthy has been mayor of West Pittston since 1998 and a member of the borough council since 1986. He is currently a lecturer at the Immaculate Conception Church; an honorary member of the Pittston Rotary Club, of the Wilkes-Barre and Pittston Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; past president of the Step by Step Board; past president of the Wilkes University Alumni Board; member of the Northeast PA Boy Scouts Executive Board; Masonic Lodge 499; Irem Temple; life member of West Pittston Hose Company No. 1; past president of the Luzerne County Borough’s Association; and a graduate of Leadership Wilkes-Barre and Leadership Pennsylvania.
Goldsworthy serves as a member of the Luzerne County Board of Assistance and the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission, and has been asked to serve as an adviser to the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors’ Municipal Leadership Commission. He is also a member of the Luzerne County Municipal Cooperation Commission and the Greater Pittston Anti-Drug Coalition Council.
WEST PITTSTON – Pete Musinski has announced he is running as an incumbent for a seat on West Pittston Borough Council.
Musinski graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and attended the Pratt Institute. Musinski worked as an intern as a mechanical engineer on the construction of the Susquehanna Nuclear Steam Electric Plant in Berwick and moved to West Pittston in 1981.
Musinski and his wife, Deborah, reside on Washington Street with their four children, Richard, Nicholas, Candyce and Krista.
Musinski is a former volunteer firefighter with the West Pittston Hose Company No. 1; member of the Moose Lodge 1207; attends Immaculate Conception Church; has been active with the Wyoming Area School District and the West Pittston Community; Wyoming Area Football Parents Association; Cheerleader Parents Association; Baseball Diamond Club; Drama Parents Association; Senior Parents Group; West Pittston Little League; West Pittston Rams; Wyoming Area Football Parents Association; and the College of William & Mary Football Parents Association.
The Musinskis have established and maintained two businesses in West Pittston, Husky Provisions and Klean and Classy.
WEST PITTSTON – Kevin Lescavage has announced his candidacy for re-election to the West Pittston Borough Council.
Lescavage has been a resident of West Pittston for the past 20 years and resides on Philadelphia Avenue with his wife, Doreen, and their two children, Cassandra and Cory.
Lescavage graduated from Minersville Area High School and attended Pennsylvania State University. He is currently employed by Reading Anthracite Co., Pottsville, and is responsible for sales in six states, as well as managing the Reading Stove Co.
Lescavage is a member of the Moose Lodge, St. Anthony’ Church, Stoners (soccer) League, Travel Soccer League and the Wyoming Valley Soccer League.
WEST PITTSTON – Brian Thornton has announced he is seeking re-election to the West Pittston council. Thornton, 49, has served the past 3 � years as president of council.
Thornton graduated in 1978 from Wyoming Area High School and was involved in several school activities, including basketball and the National Honor Society. Following graduation, Thornton specialized for a number of years in underground infrastructure projects such as sewers, water main systems and other buried utilities, as well as street and heavy highway construction projects throughout New York City and New Jersey.
Thornton is married to the former Leza Cochran and is currently vice president in retail banking and senior financial consultant with the M&T Investment Group.
Thornton has previously served on the WP Parks and Recreation Board, coached Little League and YMCA basketball and has served as chairman of the Community Service Committee of Moose 1207.
As seven-time chairman of the annual Moose-sponsored Children’s Fund Golf Tournament, Thornton has helped raise significant funds to provide financial assistance to area groups such as the YMCA Strong Kids Program, Coats-for-Kids Inc., Irem Shrine Circus, Boy Scouts and more.
He is a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He resides with his wife on Maple Street with their two children, Abigail and Kevin.
PLAINS TWP. -- John Bonita has announced his candidacy for Plains Township commissioner.
Bonita is a graduate of Wilkes College and has been a certified public accountant since 1971. He has owned and operated an accounting practice in Plains Township since 1974 until 2006, and has been a resident for more than 40 years.
Bonita and his wife, Connie, have been married for 42 years and have three children, John, Andrea and Michael; and seven grandchildren.
Bonita is a past officer/coach of Plains Little League, Yankee Football and Biddy Football; a member of the Plains Business and Professional Men’s Association; Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants; American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; has served on the advisory board of Landmark Bank; Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley; and was treasurer and a board member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club.
Bonita is currently employed by Pittston Township as financial administrator and business manager.
