Copies of Sarah Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” have been selling so briskly this week that the manager of a local bookstore calls it “one of the biggest non-fiction books to come out this year.”
“The fact that she appeared on ‘Oprah’ the day before the book was released and on ‘Good Morning America’ the day it was released (Tuesday) has helped,” said Mike Ashworth, manager of the Borders bookstore in Dickson City.
Controversy surrounding the book has only increased interest, Ashworth said.
“If you walk through our caf, you’ll hear people talk about it. A common sentiment is, ‘How did she get thrown into this whirlwind so quickly?’ One side is very derisive; the other side kind of sympathizes and says, ‘Let’s hear what she has to say.’ ”
While Ashworth, citing company policy, could not give figures, a bookseller at Barnes & Noble in Wilkes-Barre Township reported 64 copies sold, 78 in the store and more on order.
Ashworth said numbers are “a little better than that” and would be “even better if Amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Target weren’t selling the book, too.
The list price is $28.99, but Amazon.com, for example, is selling the book for $14.50.
