PITTSTON – Robert Powers was officially sworn in as the new police chief at Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.
Pittston Mayor Jason Klush announced his choice after saying he wanted to take the police department in a new direction.
Powers, 36, of Duryea, who has served on the Pittston police force for 15 years, will replace Jeffrey Tayoun, who was demoted to sergeant. Powers, who was a sergeant, will receive a raise to $50,103 a year, while Tayoun’s pay decreased to the sergeant’s salary of $46,006.
