Police: Burglar suspect found sitting on highway

BUTLER TWP. - Township police say they captured a man suspected in burglarizing a restaurant sitting in the middle of North Hunter Highway (state Route 309) waving a white towel Wednesday night.

Corey Marsicano, 23, of Wapwallopen, was charged with burglary, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief and public drunkenness. He was arraigned by District Judge Daniel O'Donnell and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police responded to Mary's Restaurant on North Hunter Highway for a burglar alarm just after 11 p.m. Police noticed a large window was smashed, and observed a shoe print on a chair.

No items were reported stolen, police said.

Several hours later at about 3:26 a.m. Thursday, police received a complaint about a man sitting in the middle of North Hunter Highway waving a towel at passing motorists.

Marsicano, who showed signs of intoxication, was in the area and detained by police.

Police said Marsicano had blood on his clothing and was carrying a 12-inch long piece of steel rebar wrapped in a towel, the criminal complaint says.

Marsicano told police, according to the criminal complaint, he smashed the restaurant's window and cut himself on broken glass. When he heard the burglar alarm, he fled the restaurant through the broken window, the criminal complaint says.
