WILKES-BARRE – City police are continuing to investigate a shooting Friday night.
Police said Norman Walker, 27, was shot in his abdomen in a parking lot behind an apartment building at 28 Academy St. in the area of South Main Plaza around 9:15 p.m.
Walker was listed in stable condition Saturday night at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, a nurse supervisor said.
Walker was uncooperative with police and refused to provide information, according to Wilkes-Barre police Sgt. James Sheridan.
Witnesses told police they saw three men running on foot toward South Main Street near Hazle Avenue. The gunman was described as black, heavyset with dreadlocks and wearing a white T-shirt and a handgun in his waistband.
Migdalia Santos, 42, of 28 Academy St., said she was sitting on her porch when she noticed a confrontation and then gunfire.
“I took my baby inside as soon as I heard the shot,” said Santos, who later spoke with officers.
Santos and her girlfriend, Deanna Stead, 32, both said this was the third time they heard shots fired in the area of South Main Plaza.
Lt. Paul Middleton said Friday night it was possible that the people involved in the shooting could be acquainted. He said the violence was not random and the general public has nothing to worry about.
A shell casing was recovered by police in the rear of the apartment building.
Police searched in the area of Sullivan and Sambourne streets where police believed the gunman might have headed.
No arrests have been made, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Wilkes-Barre Police Department at 826-8106.
Police have also released the name of Friday night’s stabbing victim.
William Tattersall, 47, suffered a gash on his left forearm when police alleged his girlfriend, Charlotte Pritchard, stabbed him after a domestic dispute at 470 N. Pennsylvania Ave. around 8:45 p.m., police said.
Pritchard, 40, was arrested and charged with simple assault, police said.
Tattersall was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley. His condition was not known.
