Election Preview: The race is on

Luzerne County voters will see a crowded ballot when they arrive at the polls on May 15 as they vote on local, school board, county and statewide offices.

Democrats and Republicans will choose their party’s nominees for the November general election.

Voters in the county’s school districts also will vote on a referendum that proposes changes to the way districts collect their tax revenue.

There are two open seats on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and two on the state Superior Court.

Vying for the two Democratic nominations are four candidates: William W. Berry Jr., Seamus McCaffery, Debra Todd and Darnell Jones II.

The three Republicans in the race are Paul P. Panepinto, Maureen Lally-Green and Mike Krancer.

Seven Democrats are running for the two nominations to the Superior Court: Timothy J. McCormick, Ron Folino, Anne E. Lazarus, Jimmy Lynn, Christine Donohue, John Milton Younge and James M. DeLeon.

The three Republicans vying for the two nominations are: Bruce F. Bratoon, Cheryl Lynn Allen and Jacqueline O. Shogan.

ELECTION DAY

Look for stories on select county, school and municipal races in the days leading up to the election.

Election Day is Tuesday, May 15. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters registered in the two major parties, Democrat and Republican, will nominate candidates for the November general election.
