KINGSTON – Letter carriers and internal operations will be transferred from the Kingston Post Office to the Wilkes-Barre Post Office beginning today, said Wilkes-Barre Postmaster Judith Lech.

Lech said the transfer is due to overcrowding at the Kingston Post Office at Wyoming Avenue and Pierce Street, which operates as a substation of the Wilkes-Barre Post Office. Regional postal processing operations were moved out of the Wilkes-Barre facility last year.
Customer service will remain the same at the Kingston facility, Lech said.
Lech said the transfer of letter carriers and operations will create more parking spaces for customers.
“The postal vehicles will not be there so that will free up space for customers,” Lech said.
The Kingston Post Office opened in 1939, according to the U.S. Postal Service.
