Pursuit on both sides of Susquehanna River ends in Wilkes-Barre

A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle led police on a chase through several municipalities on both sides of Susquehanna River that ended in the area of East Linden Street, Wilkes-Barre, on Tuesday, according to scanner reports.

An officer involved in the foot chase was bitten by a police canine near Madison Street, Wilkes-Barre.

The pursuit began, according to scanner reports, on Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston, at about 3:20 p.m.  The man turned onto River Street, Forty Fort, and Rutter Avenue, Kingston, where he turned on several side streets and drove onto the North Cross Valley Expressway crossing the Susquehanna River.

The pursuit continued to the Plains exit and River and Maffett streets, Plains Township. Wilkes-Barre police engaged in the pursuit when the man drove on North Washington Street, and back onto the North Cross Valley Expressway where the driver pulled off the Luzerne exit.

The man turned back onto the North Cross Valley, exited at the Plains exit, and turned onto River Street passing Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. The man abandoned the vehicle in the area of East Linden Street. He was captured at about 3:45 p.m. by authorities, according to scanner reports.
