Similarly named law firm ‘not’ implicated group

SCRANTON -- Powell Law, a Scranton law firm, released a statement that publicly distanced itself from embattled Luzerne County attorney Robert J. Powell, who has been implicated in a judicial corruption probe that has resulted in federal charges against two judges.

“Over the past year, we have had numerous people mistakenly associate our firm with Bob Powell and his law firm,” said attorney Mark J. Powell, a partner in the Scranton firm. “We want to make sure people understand that we are a different firm and a different family.”

Mark Powell said his firm has “no relationship whatsoever” to the West Hazleton lawyer or his similarly named law firm, The Powell Law Group, based in Drums.

He said there have been numerous cases of mistaken identity reported by clients, phone callers and other members of the general public. In one instance, he said, a woman saw the Luzerne County lawyer on a TV news report and mistakenly thought it was Mark’s brother, attorney Christopher T. Powell Jr., a partner in the Scranton firm.

In addition to Mark and Christopher Powell, the firm includes attorneys James J. Powell III, Bruce S. Zero and Christopher J. Osborne.
