Street racing incident results in charges

WYOMING – A Dallas man has been charged with racing on roads, including in front of the state police Troop P headquarters in Wyoming.
A state police trooper leaving the barracks spotted two vehicles racing on Wyoming Avenue on Sept. 26. The two drivers turned onto different streets as the trooper chased one of the vehicles across the Eighth Street Bridge and into Wilkes-Barre, where the pursuit ended for safety reasons.
Police on Saturday charged Andrew James Ruddy, 26, with being behind the wheel of the vehicle that was chased.
Ruddy was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, racing on highways and nine traffic violations. He was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Ruddy could not be reached for comment on Monday.
According to the criminal complaint:
Trooper Kevin Seidel was exiting the barracks parking lot at about 1:45 a.m. and observed two drivers racing at high speeds on Wyoming Avenue. Seidel pursued the vehicles and observed one of the drivers turn onto Ninth Street and the other, identified in the criminal complaint as Ruddy, turn onto Eighth Street.
The complaint says Ruddy traveled across the bridge into Jenkins Township and passed through a red traffic signal as he turned onto River Street toward Plains Township. Ruddy turned off the vehicle’s lights to avoid detection during the pursuit, the criminal complaint says.
